<part>Ann as: Pat Benson</part>
 <date>Columbia / 1944</date>
 <director>Directed by: Lew Landers</director>
 <costar>Tom Neal</costar>

<synopsis>Ann’s second teaming with Tom Neal, <span class="synital">Two-Man Submarine</span> is a WWII propaganda barn burner. Ann and Tom fight the Imperial Japanese Navy on a Pacific island.</synopsis>

<synopsis><span class="annquote">“I almost died on this picture. I caught pneumonia swimming around in the water tank on the lot at night. The first AD lied and said the pool would be heated, so I got in and nearly froze to death. I was out of work for weeks. I couldn’t afford to go to the hospital on the lousy 75 dollars a week Columbia was paying me. My poor mother, who had a full-time job, nursed me back to health. She was a saint, so beautiful and loving to me, and I’m sorry to say I was a lousy patient - a snotty 23-year old brat - a mean, rotten, nasty patient. I still feel very sorry about that.”</span></synopsis>

<synopsis><span class="annquote">“I was so mad at Columbia. When I got well I marched into the production office and called that AD every dirty name in the book, and several that nobody ever put into print! Max Arnow, the head of talent, called me into his office and told me I had no right to behave so terribly. I don’t care - I’m still mad about it. If I saw that assistant director now, at Farmer’s Market or someplace, I’d share a few new words I’ve learned since!”</span></synopsis>

<synopsis>A difficult movie to make, Ann only remembers J. Carroll Naish with fondness. <span class="annquote">“He taught me how to be more sympathetic on camera, to lean INTO a close-up and look up with the eyes. It worked so well I used it again in Detour when Tom shoves me down onto the couch.”</span> </synopsis>
