<synopsis><span class="synital">The Last Crooked Mile</span>, a well-made noir mystery, teamed Ann with Donald Barry who had gained fame as western hero Red Ryder in Republic Pictures’ serial of the 1940's</synopsis>
<synopsis><span class="annquote">“Pappa Yates, who ran Republic, really thought Barry was another James Cagney. He talked fast and had a chip on his shoulder, but none of the charm of Cagney. He actually told me to stop upstaging him in our shots together. How could I help it?”</span></synopsis>
<synopsis>Ann had no love lost on Barry. <span class="annquote">“He was most famous in Hollywood as the guy who really discovered Lana Turner. All that bunk about the soda fountain and Mervyn Leroy was for the papers. Barry was about 35 years old and Lana was about 16. She and I were almost exactly the same age - kids. I went to Fairfax High and she went to Hollywood High. Schwabs drugstore was right across the street from Hollywood High. Barry hung out at Schwabs all the time, eyeing the kids.”</span></synopsis>
<synopsis>In her part, as nightclub star Sheila Kennedy, Ann sings a torchy love song. <span class="annquote">“I was dubbed. Trust me, you don’t wanna hear me sing.”</span></synopsis>
